A Ventless Gas Fireplace Gives Portable Heat

One of the most common problems when it comes to fitting a heating system that relies on gas is that of not having anywhere to fix the fireplace properly. In the case of a vented fireplace, the vent will usually be run through the wall or an existing chimney to allow any toxic fumes to be taken away from the living area. If this is not possible there is a solution that does not rely on fitting an electric fireplace, the usual solution, and that is to take a look at the many ventless gas fireplaces now available. The other names for this type of fireplace can include zero clearance gas fireplaces, or freestanding gas fireplaces, since they do not need to be fitted into a place that has space for a venting system.

The vent free fireplaces now available come in many different shapes and sizes, with many designs. These designs can range from the very modern to the traditional looking gas fireplace, which means no matter the type of decoration you have in your room you are almost certain to find a vent free fireplace that will suit your style. The good news is that this large range of designs means you will also probably be able to find a style that is complementary to any existing fireplace hearth that you have installed, whether it be a traditional marble fireplace mantel, or a fireplace mantle made of wood, or even one of the more modern variety made of plastic or fiberglass. Of course, it is possible to choose the gas fireplace and then build a mantle around it. Due to the fact that these types can use natural gas, or propane gas, they are highly portable, since a propane ventless fireplace can be moved almost anywhere that you need to have heat.

If you want a secondary or supplementary heating source for a room that is not used very often, such as a small bedroom, or even a kitchen that is large and which is not heated sufficiently by the central heating system, a ventless gas fire can be moved easily to the location and be putting at heat within a matter of seconds.

Realistic flame effects

The other good thing is that many of these fireplace types are now available with realistic looking logs, sometimes known as gas fire logs, which adds a great look of realism to the fire and can make the place look even more warm and cozy

Take a look at the Monessen 33" fireplace insert, used with natural gas. Costing about $950, this gives heat output of 28,000 BTU with a yellow flame, and timber glowing logs for realistic effect. It has a blower, used with remote control (optional), and gives enough heat for a 950 square foot room. It also has a fixed safety screen.

Outdoor heat provision

Also from Monessen is the 24" vent free fireplace, also using natural gas and with realistic fireplace logs. The single burner gives out up to 10,000 BTU, and has optional decorative face plate, brass louvers, and firebrick, along with the choice of oak mantel or dark cherry mantel. This too is a slim zero-clearance fireplace that can be installed in a bedroom or small room. For those who like the outdoor life, there is the 36" stainless steel outdoor fireplace from Napoleon. This is a natural gas fireplace supplying 40,000 BTU and giving 99.9% efficiency. It can be used with a remote control, and can be installed with zero clearance to combustibles.

Before fitting one of these fireplaces you need to make sure that it is of the correct width, with some of the more normal sizes being the 20-inch width, the 24-inch width, and a 28-inch. The sizes will usually be fine for many of the traditional designed fireplaces. Some of the more popular ventless fireplace models are manufactured by Napoleon, a company which provides models that can run on both natural and propane gas. It may also be a good idea to look for a gas fire that has a remote control, since this will also enable you to control the heat output much more easily and to a much higher degree of sensitivity.

All in all a vent free gas fireplace can be a great alternative to the vented gas fire version, since it enables you to have heat almost anywhere you want it without having to go to the trouble of installing a flue system.

A ventless gas fireplace is a real heat booster. I've had one for about two years and I wouldn't be without it. A real winner and one I'd recommend to anyone looking for a bit of extra heat.

I used a ventless fire for my conservatory and it has made the place really warm. I use the room all the time now even when the weather is freezing.
